Skin Yoga is a brand that creates 100% natural skincare. Their products are free from fragrances, preservatives and parabens. On top of this, they are cruelty free and vegan! They recently sent me over some samples of a few products they offer and I wanted to share them with you guys, as I’ve never come across products like these before. Straight away, a downfall I noticed is that they’re based in India, and their website is all priced in Indian Rupees. They do ship worldwide and accept PayPal, which converts the currency for you, however the products will take 10-12 business days to be shipped over.
The samples they sent me include their Coffee Scrub, which is the only thing that looked familiar to me as I’ve seen people using coffee scrubs all over instagram to exfoliate their body. As well as this, they sent me a Fresh Orange body scrub, as well as their Post Workout Neem Purifier. The Neem Purfier was most confusing to me, as I’ve never heard of skin purifiers and had never heard of Neem till now. So to help those that are as confused as I was, lets have a look at them individually!
Each product came with a brief description about how it helps your skin. The coffee scrub claims to “zap stubborn cellulite and stretch marks, fights dryness and lulls skin into luminosity. This scrub also treats inflammation and moisturises and nourishes your skin.” The ingredients consist of ground coffee, cold pressed coconut oil and sesame oil.
When I first used this, I used it in the bath. Big mistake, big stupid mistake. I should’ve realised this was a bad idea before I even did it. Using this in the bath is essentially going to turn your bath into a big cup of coffee, so I had to empty the bath after using it and proceed with having a shower. I scrubbed it into my skin for the recommended 5-7 minutes, making sure to really work it in. I then proceeded to wash my body as normal.
Whilst this felt great as an exfoliant, after my shower, I still smelt like coffee and so did my bathroom. This for me is a major downfall, as I don’t particularly enjoy the smell of coffee and it lingered for the rest of the evening, even after smothering myself in body butter. It did however, do its job and it did feel moisturising with the addition of coconut oil, which I could feel on my skin after wiping it away. However, the smell was too much for me so I don’t think I would use this again.
Post-Workout Neem Purifier
The neem purifier was what I was most excited to try. Skin Yoga says that “neem leaves are the best answer to all skin problems. The bitterness of neem will help you get rid of bacteria and regular use will help you free from unwanted body odour.” It does recommend it is used after exercise, but let’s be honest, I don’t exercise much at all.
I really liked this product as it acted as a gentle exfoliant, whilst also feeling like it thoroughly cleaned my skin. I also like that it claims to be able to fight body odour. Whilst I haven’t used it long enough to see whether this works in the long run, I still apply it on my underarms anyway to rid them of bacteria, and exfoliate them after shaving to avoid ingrown hairs, as I often neglect my underarms after shaving.
With this scrub, it’s also recommended to use this in the shower on wet skin, and to then follow up with your usual shower routine. Whilst I used this in the shower, I did find it easier to sit down and apply the scrub to my legs, so I could properly work it in for 5-7 minutes as it suggests.
Fresh Orange Body Scrub
The fresh orange body scrub may have been my least favourite of the samples I was sent. Whilst it did exfoliate my skin, it felt very messy and went everywhere. It was difficult to keep it on the areas that I wanted. The product itself claims that the Vitamin C found in the orange granules penetrate deep inside your pores to give you a heavenly glow, although I didn’t really notice this. I do like that it contains Turmeric as this is meant to be great for the skin, and it claims to regulate the production of sebum to work as an antiseptic for burns and cuts. This being said, I wouldn’t really want to use a scrub on burns and cuts so it’s strange they mention this. It is meant to be great for stretch marks though! Not that they’re a bad thing, but each to their own!
I would love to know if you’ve ever tried anything like this in the comments below! My favourite was definitely the neem purifier which left my underarms looking great after shaving! Till next time, follow me on my social media in the side bar and twitter down below!
